Update...

It's been a while. Money got tight, and considered selling the van, had a very good couple of offers, but gladly I decided to keep it.

I was browsing craigslist the other day and found a guy near me with an NOS 'Ven-turi' roof vent. My old standard roof vent was a sun baked leaker, so I am going to do this one up correct. Weld up the extra 30 or something screw holes, weld in some cross bracing that was cut out, sand, prime, paint, and blend, then install the Venturi with new sealant and such.

I got my BFG's on the slot mags, and got those lightly polished with a lot of work with wetsanding and drill-attatched buffing cones.

Last weekend I threw on the Hooker tube Headers. It was not fun, but I could do it again in half the time now. Running around open headers has been fun, but time to connect the new side pipes that I have been sitting on. I know they will be a little 'too' quiet for me (they are the full length of the short wheelbase), so I may work on some magic tricks with my muffler shop buddy to get the sound I want.

Still 2 front seats only, all the shag and saggy panelling has been ripped out, I found a set of the original buckets at the yard by me, and just threw some astroturf in the back for now. Found some bumper guards at the junk yard. Stoked. The fog lights are changing to some sweet Aris orange Iodine round ones above bumper.

The plans next are find a cheap performer intake and a nice mellow 500 or so cfm edelbrock, and drive the van down to southern California for Born Free 5 at the end of June. I am working on a 1939 45" flathead right now, which hopefully will be done in time for the show.

Later guys.

Here's a few more recent pics. The paint is soooo old and dry, that I have to really keep up on it from hazing over (next weekend the orbital buffer comes out again). I really dig the old lace and panel job and think it would be a shame to not proudly display it. I am going to try a 'paintless dent guy' to get the wrinkling dents out of the nose peak on the hood without harming the paint. I have a few old AMF sporty tanks to do as well, so hopefully I won't get thoroughly assaulted by the pricing.

The van's looking great! I'm glad you weren't forced to sell. I love the old patina, especially with that special lace treatment, and I applaud you for trying to keep it that way.
