My Quadravan makes a clunk/bang noise when going over big bumps on the front passenger side. I noticed the bushing is coming out where the radius arm is meeting the axle. Could this be where the noise is coming from? I need to try and diagnose exactly where the sound is coming from but wanted to see if anyone else experienced something similar and would save me some time.

This busing needs to be replaced anyways, has anyone had experience with this?

Looks like a Bronco C bushing to me. Looking at your pictures I would say that is your noise source. Those bushings are available from early bronco parts suppliers (jeffs bronco graveyard is a good one). The job is pretty involved; I used a 1/2 impact wrench to pull the radius arm cap bolts and had to use ratchet straps to pull the axle assembly back to the arms on the reinstall..Of course it would be easier with helpers....... Hope this helps.

Before you start changing that, assuming they mount like the 2WD Econos, I’d check the upper shock mounts. But if one was loose you’d probably here it on smaller bumps too. Either way, it’s easy enough to check & easier to fix.
I really can’t tell diddly from your pix but my old, beat, ‘71 Bronco doesn’t make any noise from the front & I’m somewhat skeptical about yours being from those bushings.

Thanks for the info. I checked the upper shock mounts and they are tight with no evidence they have been moving around. From driving it around today in a field, I noticed it is only some bumps that make the noise, I think it has something to do with the angle the van takes going in and coming out of the bump which leads me back to that C bushing. I'm going to look further into that unless someone else has a suggestion.

Do these look like the correct bushings?

They do look like the correct bushings. Do all the van owners here have Broncos? Looks like it to me. Way cool! Dave
