i'm starting to go thru e-300 steering. went to the steering box site, looks ok. have you rebuilt a manual steering box? how much of a pain in the as is it? need special steering box tools? and where did you get the parts or are they generic off the shelf balls and seals. thanks chri

Never rebuilt a steering box. There's some info on overhauling one in the Ford service manual. To be thorough, you would need a pretty accurate inch pound wrench to be able to measure the bearing preload and some other things. As you can see in the scan below, some of those measurements are below 10 inch pounds (sorry for the poor scan).
I see rockauto has some seals listed, but they might not all fit the Ford steering box.
