Searching on google, i found this site that will decode your VIN number. I dont know if this link has been posted on here before but i never saw it so here it is. VIN DECODER
Works good, tells you the year, series, engine, assembly plant, transmission, and axle. Sorry, no paint codes :P , guess we will just have to look that up ourselves.

I wouldnt give them any more VIN numbers. no telling what they are doing with them. I have an old Haynes manual for mid fords with a decoder in front and that VIN number should go like this;

Model Year: 74
Series: E100 - Regular/Cargo Van
Engine: 8 Cyl, 302ci (5.0L) 2bbl
Assembly Plant: Lorain
Transmission: Need code from second line on plate
Front Axle: Need code from second line on plate
Rear Axle: Need code from second line on plate

Mitch :rolleyes:

It was made late in 74 but the 75s did not come out as early as other years cause of the major body changes. a friend of mine got his new 74 in dec with a 75 title.

Thanks Mitch. I here ya on the giving out vin # thing. I figured it was probably sold as a 75 in early 75 cause I bought a 86 F150 of the lot in 86 and the tag on the door said manufactured in 85. I'm trying to do research on my vans past because the story behind it is that it originaly belonged to the U.S. ski team. For you older folks you might remember Suzy Chaptick ( Suzy Chaffee) from the comercials. It has a us ski team license plate rim,us ski team bumper sticker and window emblems which have faded away. Also I have found several us ski team pins under the carpet and here and there. The van sat In CA in the high desert on a cement slab from 82 till 95 with the blown 302 in the back .Thats when I put the 85 lincoln cont mark Vll 302 with OD in it.Would be cool to find out Suzy Chapstick cruised around in it.

Hi, Ford was fames for 1/2 year models and that is what happened in 75 when they were changing from the second generation to the third. They kept production going on the 74 models few extra months to cover there needs until the new model came out a few months later than normal. Ford did the same thing with the Bronco in 77. They kept the small Bronco selling part way into the 77 model year and than introduced the Full size model half way thru the year. John

This thing worked for me, it's great! Mine comes up as E-150 too. My emblems on the outside say E-100 but inside the door it says E-150.
