Hey guys,

Starting my power brake upgrade. I have a '71 e100 that I upgraded to e200 suspension and drums already. Now I am going to upgrade to power brakes. I am using the parts from a '72 e300 for the power brake upgrade.

Here are some pictures of the difference between the hoods and grill, the black hood is the '71 hood, and the blue hood is the '72 hood:

Some pictures of the latch placement for the hood, which I had to move for the booster to fit:

Next weekend I will be putting the booster in, all new brake lines, new shoes, and pretty much everything is going to be new on the brake system. I will keep you guys posted.

I finished my power brake upgrade! Let me tell you, I cant believe how great my van stops now. I originally had e100 running gear, upgraded to e200 running gear, and now I have power brakes also. I replaced everything throughout the braking system including: new lines, shoes, wheel cylinders, springs, etc, and every part you can think of. The tricky part for me was the flaring and bending of the new lines. Everything else went smoothly. I finished it in 2 days with the help of my brother. The only modification I had to make was to the cowl. I had to cut it back so the master cylinder and booster would fit. I also added a proportiong valve to the rear brakes. It prolly wasnt needed, but if I put discs on the front it will come in handy. Here are a few pics:

Randy,

Great Job and thanks for posting the pictures.

Greg,

Great call on the master and booster clearing the radiator. For years, I believed it would not fit.

Hi alex,

The "Jegs thing" is an adjustable brake proportioning valve. With an adjustable brake proportioning valve, you can adjust the brake pressure to the rear brakes, full pressure on down. On some vehicles, when you switch to front disc brakes, sometimes you have to reduce pressure to the rear drum brakes so they do not look up to soon.

Adjustable proportioning valves are installed on race cars. They are illegal on street cars because they not DOT approved and they do not want just anyone to mess with the brakes on a street car.

I have one on the Chevelle and I need to install one on the Mustang. When you change tire compounds, tire sizes, or brake pad compounds, this will effect how the brakes perform. This is were the proportioning valve comes in. You tune the valve so the brakes perform to their maximum performance level.

hi randy, can you tell me where you got the bracket holding the booster and mc , i'm gonna try to do this on my 69, can i stay with my existing brakes instead of bigger drums. i have a hood from a 74 hanging on my garage wall, wonder if the latch area would be different than the one on there now, any help from anyone on this would be great

would love to get this setup on my 69, any idea where i can find the booster , and can i use my existing master cylinder on it. thanks, also is there anything else i need to get to do this, does this have any vacuum lines ?

Got lucky and found the booster/bracket combo at a junkyard near me. You have to use the master cylinder specifically for power brakes. I ran the vacuum line to the back of my carburetor.

I believe you can use the booster on the e100, 200, and 300. I have 200 drums all the way around. You will need the later hood and to move your latch mechanism. Sorry i haven't been on here for so long. Been busy with the new job. Want to start vannin again!

Vic
Randy,

Did you use the original drum brake peddle or did you change the peddle too?
