Okay guys, hoping someone can answer a question here. I bought a set of rebuilt heads on ebay the other night that were supposed to be E7TE H.O. heads. I got the heads today, and there's no E7TE on them. I don't know a whole lot about these heads, but I was under the impression that all E7TE heads had the prefix cast into the bottom of the head. I certainly could be wrong about that, but this has got me wondering if the guy sold me a set of regular ole 302 heads that are no better than my 78 heads.

Are there any other markings on the E7TE's that help identify them?...
Roger
okay.... A little update...
I just got back from a local mustang performance shop, and the guy said the heads I have are definitely late model 5.0 heads. He's just not sure what they are exactly. He was stumped by the fact that there's no E7TE or whatever on the bottom of the head. He did say that the combustion chambers look just like the E7TE's he's seen. He mostly works with aftermarket heads though.

So I'm still not sure what these things are. Here's a few pictures if it would help anyone.

......... and another shot.... This is strange to me. Notice that the highlighted area on the right looks a lot smoother than the one on the left. It looks as though the area on the right has been ground smooth. Is this where the casting number should be?.
Roger
...last picture... Do these numbers mean anything?... How about the "T" on the left?.
Roger
Talked to John earlier and told him I would look again and post a couple more shots... This is all there is John. No other markings, and definitely no Ford part # prefix.

Okay, another update... I'm probably driving everyone crazy with this.. biggrin.gif

After chatting with John last night, I finally found a picture on the web of where the casting numbers should be. They are supposed to be right where that ground down part of the head is in one my earlier posts on this. I contacted the guy that I bought the heads from, and asked him why there was no casting number, and this was his reply:

"We buy a lot of the 302 and 351W Ford heads from a supplier who gets them from a Ford authorized rebuilder. They are take off heads from the 1987 and newer engines. It is part of his deal with Ford that the numbers must be removed. I have never had a problem with that since we know which heads are the 1987 and newer by the valve size and combustion chamber size and design. He is an excellent source for us to get good take off heads for us to rebuild. I can assure you that they are correct as advertised. Let me know if that is a problem for you."

After discussing his reply with John, we agreed that it wouldn't hurt to take them to a shop that can tell me if these are E7TE heads somehow. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this?.

I wish I could help but have not a clue.

I've seen heads exactly like that. the E7TE numbers were pretty faded. traditionally the T under the valve cover is 'truck' the chamber volumes vary by suffix.. there is a difference between an E7TE-DA and an E7TE-PA..

the PA heads i've seen have about a 62 cc chamber and really unusually nice exhaust ports.

there is also one vertical bar on the ends of the heads, much like the 3 bars on a GT head or the 4 Bars on a Gt40P head.

hope this helps.

Hey Roger,

Here are some pictures of E7 heads. I did not see the Bar on the end of the heads, but they are E7's.

Holy crap!.. Was it really 2004 when I posted this stuff?.. Ugh!!.. This is depressing.. I gotta get the darn van done soon or it's gonna start growing roots. laugh.gif

I did end up using those heads. Vic, the spot where your heads have the E7TE stamped,, is the spot on mine that looked like something had been ground off the head.. Either way,, I'm not building a race engine,,, and it's up and running (although not on the road yet.

2004??... Man,, I'm friggin lazy!!. rolleyes.gif

Sorry Roger,

It did not even dawn on me that this post is that old. You can ignore my previous post. Sorry for trying to debug a problem that does not exist any more.
