You can post images on this message board a few different ways..

Posting the picture in a message:
A. (IMG button option)
If the picture you have is already on the web somewhere, you can then click on the "IMG" button that will be listed just above where you would type your message when posting a topic. It will pop up a little box for you to type, or copy and paste, the web address for the picture. Just enter the address, click "OK", and post your topic.

B. (file attachment option)
If the image is not on the web somewhere, then you can simply upload it directly from your computer.
A little below the area where you would type your message, there is a spot that says "file attachments".
Click the "browse" button and a box will pop up to allow you to choose the file you want to upload. Navigate to the folder on your computer where the picture is located (desktop, picture folder, etc.), and then click on the file. The name of the file should appear in the "file name" box. Then click "open". You should now see the name of the file in the box next to "browse". Then click "post new topic" at the bottom of the screen, and you're done.

As a side note, if you are using the "IMG" button option (A.) then you can click the "preview post" button and you will see your image in the preview. However, if you are using the "file attachment" option (B.), the image will not appear when you hit "preview post". This is because the image isn't uploaded to our server until you actually post the topic. It also removes the file name from the "file attachments" box when you hit "preview post", and you'll have to enter it again. There doesn't seem to be anything I can do about that.

You can also post your pictures in the "Gallery". To do that, follow the steps below.

1. In the second row of options near the top of the board, click on "My Controls".
2. when the page loads, you should see "Your albums" listed on the left under "Menu". Click "your albums"
3. you should now see a link that says "Click here to create your first album!".. click the link.
4. enter a "album name", and "album description". Also check the box next to "Public" if you want others to be able to view it. (pretty obvious). Then click "create album".

When the page loads again, you should see your new album that you've created. To add a picture to it, click the "Upload" link to the right of the screen. Then you just type a "caption", and a "description", and then select the image/s you want to use by either using the "IMG" button option, or by using the "Image to upload" box to upload them from your computer. After you're done, it will take you back to the screen to be able to edit, view, delete, or upload again.

When you're finished, you can click the "Gallery" button near the top right of the board, and your album should be on the list. The gallery was just added to our board a couple weeks ago, so I don't know of any bugs there may be with it. If you have any problems at all, let me know.

One last note.... Many of the "free web space" servers (such as Yahoo, Geocities etc.) will not allow you to directly link to images that are stored on their servers. If you post an image, and then find that it doesn't appear after it's viewed a few times, you'll know why.

Rondo, I am still having a problem getting a picture on the site. I have dial up/AOL connection, will that prevent me from posting?
andy
Sorry I meant Roger.
Roger
Sorry Andy, I didn't see your message last night.. What's happening when you try to post a picture?. Is it just not showing up?.
If you're getting an error message that says "you cannont upload this type of file", then the picture is probably too large. The maximum file size for uploading pictures is 800kb.

There shouldn't be a problem with using AOL,, but I'll look into it.
andy
It dosent show up. Kind of acts like it's going through the motion and says done but no picture.

If I send you a picture can you post it? smile.gif
Roger
I'd be happy to post it for you.

Are you trying to use the "file attachments" thing when you're attempting to post the picture?.. The one pain in the ass thing about the file attachment thing, is if you select your picture to upload (using the browse button), and then happen to use the "preview post" thing after that,, you'll find that the file name has disappeared from the file attachments box. You'll have to select the file again before posting the message.

Either way, I'm still looking into the AOL thing.

I tried not reviewing the post and then reviewing as well, many times. The bar would

Hey gang, I thought I should update this info since the latest board upgrade added a new option to attach more than one picture when using the "file attachments" option. I'll also explain how to have text between each picture.....
So, here goes. You may have to click on the images in this post to enlarge so they make sense.

The first step is to click the browse button and select the file on your computer that you wish to attach to your message. Once you do that, you will see the name of the file in the "file attachments" box. Then click on the button that says "add this attachment" (red arrow in the picture below).

After click the "add this attachment" button, you'll see that the file is now in the file attachments list indicated in the picture below.

If you wish to attach more than one picture, just click the browse button again, and select another file on your computer. Each time you do this, and then click "add this attachment",, the file will be added to the file attachments list,,, like this picture shows.

Now,,, if you want to seperate the pictures with text, (instead of having a number of pictures one after the other with no words between them) then just type what you want to appear before the picture, and then click the appropriate "add into post" button that's located next to each file in the attachments list. As an example, in the picture below, I just typed "Picture number one" and then clicked the "add into post" button next to the picture that I'm describing. Then I typed "Picture number two", and again clicked the "add into post" button for that file. When you click that button, you'll notice a small attachment ID number show up in your message. The number will be different for each file. (unless you accidentally hit the wrong button)

I hope this helps folks with attaching files. I'm usally horrible with explaining things. rolleyes.gif
There are still a lot of folks using dial-up, so don't get carried away with a lot of large images in one message.
Any questions, just fire away.

Hey Roger I tried posting some pics and it tells me I can not use the [img] Tag

Here's what it said
THE FOLLOWING ERROR(S) WERE FOUND
You are not allowed to use that image extension on this board. A valid format is: http://www.domain.com/picture.gif, an invalid format is: http://www.domain.com/picture.one.gif
Roger
hmm,, maybe a glitch.... was the image file a .gif file?... Or was it a .GIF (all capitals)?.

Could you try it again?.
Roger
By the way, I guess I should change the little instructional images in my previous post on posting pictures. Things are different since the last board upgrade.
