One last upgrade before I went on vacation. We decided we needed to u[pgrade the mat system in the van - that PEI sand goes everywhere.! I stripped out the van (including seats) to fit a new mat. I wanted to leave enough room as well around the doghouse as it tends to get taken off quite a bit. unsure.gif blink.gif I found the original mats a pain when taking it off.

I went to the local rubber shop, got 2 3' wide sections of rubber sheeting that has square grooves on one side. I got 2 12' long sections and 12 feet of 4" wide rubber strip to glue them together (its about 1/16 inch thick). I picked up some rubber glue from them but I think contact cement would work as well. I flipped the sheets over, put them together, sanded the area on each edge for gluing (and hte strip) I applied glue and let it tack up. I then weighted down the whole joint with boards and bricks and let it sit for 24 hrs.

I had pics of this but my e-cam batteries died. unsure.gif Here is a sectio of the rubber sheet looks like.

I then made a paper template for the van to get it to fit right. I used dollar store brown wrapping paper. The panelling is almost all gone now BTW.

I transferred the template to the sheeting and trimmed to fit (I still have the template if anyone wants it)

I used a cutter punch (Princess Auto) to punch out the holes for seat, etc..Ok I’m really not that burnt.

After final trimming it fit great..here is a shot around drivers area. I trimmed the old mat to slightly overlap the new one. I also fixed the old mat as much as possible – it had a few tears – I glued strips on the back to reinforce and I put a few gobs of seam sealer to hold in place. I also cut out small mats for the step plate and secured with a few gobs of seam sealer.

Here is a shot of the passenger side. I left clearance around the doghouse as I mentioned before.
